Residents' families are consulted together with any medical notes prior to admission to Ashton grange. This allows the staff to assess the resident's individual needs, as well their likes and dislikes, and a "This is Me" document is completed with the resident or relatives so we gain more information about the resident and can make the care needs specific to the resident and their surroundings. This is communicated to all the day and night care staff at Ashton Grange Nursing. The family are free to bring any furniture, pictures and paintings that the resident would like in order for them to feel as comfortable in their new surroundings as possible. A change in environment is difficult for anyone, and this a difficult time for someone with dementia so we ensure that we have everything in place before they are admitted to make it homely and holistic to their care. It is important to make each resident's room as familiar as possible in order to ensure a smooth transition between their old home and Ashton Grange Nursing Home. Common areas are decorated in a warm and homely manner with old pictures of Horsham, which also assists in providing residents with a familiar environment.
